Optimising decision making for boards

Recent research co-authored by OnBoard Programme co-founder Elizabeth Mohr looked at best practices when it comes to optimising decision making for boards.

Based on interviews with over 50 current UK public company Chairs with over 620 years of experience between them, the authors identified five ways to really enhance board decision making - and that no boards follow all of these!

Themes include ensuring clarity and alignment on the role of the board, optimising and leveraging board diversity and providing the board with the right resources and understanding.

Of all the practices identified, those that were least used were 'proactively considering cognitive diversity when recruiting board members', and 'being intentional about moulding the board into a high performing team.' Lots of room for improvement!
